Byzantine Icons:
The funerary art of ancient Egypt left the Middle East with a tradition of painting on wood that still amazes us today.
Although this tradition spread throughout the Christian world at the beginning of our era, a serious crisis nearly destroyed it forever: the iconoclastic crisis of the 7th and 9th centuries.
From this event emerged the Byzantine icon, a symbolic image adhering to strict canons. We invite you to discover this art form that has endured through the centuries.
