Fishing trail – The Berlou and Gijou causeways

Fishing route in a Category 1 fishing area in Vabre, on the Gijou and Berlou rivers

This route covers 1,200 metres of the banks of the Gijou. We have chosen the two most easily accessible sections, which are particularly well suited to family fishing.
A Category 1 fishing stretch on the Gijou, 400 metres upstream
of the Vabre municipal swimming pool:
Access: from Vabre, head towards Lacaune-les-Bains.
After 400 metres, park upstream of the fish farm.
There are two options:
- 400 metres along the left bank downstream of the Chaussée du Ga
- and 800 metres along the right bank.
Species present:
trout, gudgeon, minnow, and ‘signal’ crayfish found in high
numbers – a great opportunity to try them

Places to explore
■ On the Gijou:
- At the Rocalet dam, the Gijou water intake leading to the Luzières dam
- Pont Vieux canal (with a former water intake used by dyers at the turn of the century)
- Ga canal (ford) water intake
- La Payssière canal, which supplies the Mialet fish farm (Berlou fish farm)
- Bousquet canal, disused but maintained.
- Aqueduct upstream of Le Bousquet, used for irrigation.
- First aqueduct upstream of the Pont de la Mouline, disused but maintained.
- Second aqueduct upstream of La Mouline, disused but maintained for fishing, as well as the river aqueduct and the two Courrégé aqueducts
