Take a stroll and explore the birdlife at your own pace from four observation decks. Open year-round with free admission. Guided tours organized by the Tarn branch of the LPO are available in the summer. One observation deck is accessible to people with limited mobility.
The Esquirol Observatory is open every Wednesday afternoon, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., from April through October.
Located in the alluvial plain of the Sor and Agout rivers west of Castres, the Cambounet-sur-le-Sor Ornithological Nature Reserve consists of several ponds formed from former gravel pits, most of which are now colonized by aquatic vegetation. The site’s main attraction is the presence of a large colony of herons. The reserve is classified as a Type 1 ZNIEFF (Natural Area of Ecological, Floristic, and Faunistic Interest).
This reserve was established on September 19, 1990. It has been a member of the “Réserves Naturelles de France” (RNF) network since 1993.
