La Forge du Lucimond

Ideally situated for hiking, our gîte is crossed by the GR36. It is an old forge transformed into a completely independent gîte for two people where you will find calm and rest as well as all the desired comfort.

We have rehabilitated the old forge of our forefathers and exhibited the working tools, jewels of our heritage. On arrival at our gîte, you will be able to admire the "ferradou" (also known as the workhouse), the place where the oxen were shod, which has been completely rebuilt to house the sledgehammer, the bender, the hand drill, the pillar drill and the line shaft, which we wanted to renovate and exhibit, like a mini-museum in the open air, so that we could share this heritage of the past with you. From the 18th to the 20th century, this forge has seen the succession of generations of blacksmiths from father to son until 1982, when its home died out forever. Who knows? With a little imagination, you may still be able to hear the tinkling of the hammer on the big anvil, smell the acrid smell of red iron and imagine the parade of oxen and horses coming from all over the surrounding countryside of our beautiful valley to have their hooves shod. We have rebuilt this forge by preserving and strengthening the existing walls. In the 1800s, the space was even shared between a blacksmith on the north side and a locksmith on the south side. The locksmith's shop overlooked the old alley. So you can admire the two openings of this "shop" which have been restored to their original state. This renovation was very important to us and we are proud to share this family heritage with you, during a stay that we hope will be as pleasant as possible. The terrace was made with stones and slates from the past, which were found, dismantled, transported, sorted and replaced in front of the forge.

It is a gîte for two people where you will find calm and rest as well as all the desired comfort. The furniture has been found and customised, ready for a second life. The huge old bellows has also been preserved, renovated with the original shoeing nails. It is enthroned above the entrance door, as if to welcome you on your arrival and wish you an excellent stay among the treasures of our past.
