Open to the public year-round on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, and in July and August, every day from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM (except Mondays).
- Learn a little more about the Institute:
Founded by Lama Yeshe in 1979, the Institute is part of the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition (FPMT), whose spiritual director is Lama Zopa Rinpoche.
The Institute is particularly connected to one of the four Tibetan Buddhist schools, the Gelugpa school, founded in Tibet in the 14th century by Lama Tsongkhapa. This extraordinary scholar and practitioner inspired a whole lineage of highly realized Buddhist practitioners, including His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the guide and inspiration of the FPMT, who is its current successor. His Holiness taught at the Institute twice, in 1982 and 1993.
The principal resident teacher is Geshe Tenzin Loden. Having entered Sera Je Monastery at the age of 9, Geshela earned the title of geshe in 1994. The Institute also hosts several French teachers.
The Institute’s team consists of staff members, residents, and volunteers who work to organize various activities.
