The Château de MASSAGUEL is located at the foot of the Montagne Noire, next to the Sant, on a slight rise overlooking the left bank of this stream by about 25 meters and on the outskirts of the village of the same name.
Visits are only possible during Heritage Days
The name Massaguel first appears in a charter dated 1152, in which Pierre de Puylaurens donated the farmhouse of Massaguel to his wife, Dias de Fabersan.
It therefore appears that in the mid-12th century, there was a fortified rural estate at Massaguel.
Listed in the Supplementary Inventory of Historic Monuments
Massaguel appears to have had two walls. All that remains of the first wall is a partially leveled tower approximately 12 meters high.
Various buildings are attached to it.
The entrance gate to the castle’s inner courtyard pierces this wall through a round arch surmounted by 17th-century pilasters.
The main façade is located directly in line with this gate.
It is square in shape and flanked by three round towers. The towers have been partially leveled but still rise to a height of over 18 meters.
