Beekeeper in Puylaurens, producer of royal jelly and honey.
My name is Gaëtan Vinay, and I’m a beekeeper based in Puylaurens. After fifteen years working in oceanography, I decided to change career paths to turn my passion for bees and beekeeping into a business. In 2014, I made this dream a reality by founding Les Ruchers de Puylaurens. Today, I produce honey and royal jelly.
With my hives set up in the hills around Puylaurens, I produce spring honey, wildflower honey, and sunflower honey throughout the year. I move some of my hives to the Occitanie region—particularly to the Pyrenees and the Montagne Noire—to produce acacia, garrigue, Montagne Noire, chestnut, and bramble honey. Royal Jelly and the GPGR
I am a member of the Groupement des Producteurs de Gelée Royale (GPGR), which brings together about a hundred professional beekeepers in France. Faced with massive imports of royal jelly from China 20 years ago, a handful of beekeepers founded the GPGR to revive royal jelly production in France. The GPGR established a quality charter and created the “Gelée Royale Française” brand and its logo, with the goal of producing high-quality royal jelly. Through this charter, beekeepers commit, in particular, to: - To respect the bees’ natural diet (honey, pollen) by refraining from any artificial feeding of the bees during the production period.
- To follow practices that respect bee health and the environment.
- To store royal jelly in a cool place without freezing it, in its original state: no processing, no dehydration.
