This village offers a very picturesque scene, with its medieval quarter facing the river and its modern quarter facing the road. Each era had its own means of communication. The town, then known as “Vetus Murus,” was founded in the 10th century, and in 1208, a major convent was established there. Despite extensive damage during religious conflicts and the French Revolution, remnants of the abbey buildings still remain, and the church houses a beautiful 18th-century carved marble altar. Don’t miss the sumptuous façade from the same period on Place du Cardinal Bernadou.
