In the old days, the silkworm...
It is a charming village with its church, fountain, and rogatory crosses... Silkworm farming, or sericulture, seems to have lasted a very long time in Serviès—much longer than elsewhere. A report dated June 9, 1908, notes that children were, among other things, busy gathering mulberry leaves for the silkworms.
Faced with competition from the Far East, the industry gradually disappeared. There used to be numerous rows of white mulberry trees. A trading post was established in the town hall’s council chamber. A scale is still on display there today.
